A. Adjective na (な - 形容詞) + です

Na adjectives (Keiyoushi), as the name suggests. These na adjectives (Keiyoushi) are adjectives that end in a vowel letter other than i and then add the particle . The sentence pattern adjective na + desu is a sentence in the form of "Positive Now". The Na particle in this sentence pattern may not be written in sentences or conversations, it only serves to distinguish between na and i adjectives.

Examples of na Adjectives and Their Sentence Patterns:

1. しんすつ(な) = Friendly, Kind
2. きれい(な) = Beautiful, Pretty
3. しずか(な) = Quiet, Quiet, Lonely
4. ひま(な) = Relaxed
5. べんり(な) = Practical


1. あれはきれいなまちです

That's a beautiful city, isn't it?

あれ indicates the direction of the object that is far away from the speaker and interlocutor, きれいな is an adjective meaning "beautiful, lovely", まち is a noun meaning "city", です is an affirmation of the sentence accompanied by an adjective.



2. きょうはひまです

Today is free

きょう indicates the state or situation of the speaker, ひま is an Adjective meaning "Free", and です is an affirmation of the sentence accompanied by an adjective.



B. Adjective na (な - 形容詞) and Adjective na (な - 形容詞) + じゃありません/ じゃない + です

Adjective na (Keiyoushi), as the name implies. These na adjectives (Keiyoushi) are adjectives that have letter endings in the form of vowels other than i. The sentence pattern adjective na + ja arimasen / ja nai + desu is a sentence in the form of "Negative Now". In Japanese rules, to make this sentence pattern, the particle na at the end of the sentence must be removed and じゃありません/ じゃない added. じゃありません/ じゃない here means "No, No" or indicates a refutation of an answer to a question. じゃありません is more polite and is usually used with elders, employees with superiors, and people of dignity. Whereas じゃない is used for conversations or statements to people of the same age and social strata.

Example:
ー しんすつ(な) じゃありません/ じゃない = Not Friendly, Not Kind
ーきれい(な) じゃありません/ じゃない = Not Beautiful, Not Pretty
ー しずか(な) じゃありません/ じゃない = Crowded, Noisy


1. きょうはひまじゃないです

Today is not free

きょう shows the state or situation of the speaker, ひま is an Adjective meaning "Free", じゃありません/ じゃない is a buffer adjective meaning "No", and です is an affirmation of the sentence accompanied by the adjective.


2. それはやまださんじゃありません

It's not Mr. Yamada or Mr. Yamada.

それ is a word that shows the existence of an object, is a particle as a sign of the subject, やまださん is a Personal Noun that functions as the subject in the sentence above, じゃありません is a refutation of a sentence as well as a sign that Mr. Yamada has a higher social strata or is older than the speaker.
